As if the time he spent in Guantanamo wasn’t enough it seems now that the British Government want to actually shut him up completely. He visited Syria around about December time and it appears it took the plod all this time to find some reason to arrest him.
I have no time for anyone who goes to Syria to fight the Syrian Army. There have been plenty of claims that young British Muslim men are going to terrorise civilians under cover of a ‘Jihad’. Those people can return in a box for all I care. Moazzam Begg is not one of them. From reading trusted writers personal accounts of knowing Moazzam , it is apparent that he hasn’t got a nasty bone in his body. If the British general public weren’t so racist (and prejudiced against Islam) there would be a massive campaign to free Mr Begg.
Sadly , if many of the people I know are anything to go by , he’ll be labelled a terrorist simply by mentioning his name. Once they realise he’s been a prisoner in Guantanamo there would be comments like ‘they should have executed him’. This , despite the fact that many who were taken to Guantanamo were not guilty of anything worse than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Offer a ransom for any ‘al qaida’ operatives in a poor place like Pakistan or Afghanistan and elderly relatives start to look more and more like a US dollar sign….Never mind complete strangers!
It would seem the people that agreed to the torture of prisoners are starting to get a little worried about what Moazzam might be uncovering, hence his unjustifiable arrest. Most people probably think ‘who cares’ but they will care when they get arrested for some minor crime due to the GCHQ collecting of yahoo camera images or similar.
Moazzam Begg is fighting them , it’s time we all did.
It seems the latter is much more important to the football authorities than the 400 Nepalese deaths working on football stadiums in Qatar , as reported by the Guardian this week. It’s starting become blatantly obvious that the deaths of these poor souls building the football stadiums is of no consequence to FIFA. They’ve allowed supporters to do monkey chants to black players for years and it still happens regularly in European competitions but Anelka shows this anti establishment sign and he’s banned for 5 games.
Or is it for another reason the FA have made an example of Anelka? Maybe the leniency allowed to Israel even though they stop Palestine from playing almost any competitive games has something to do with it. Perhaps its related to UEFA allowing Israel to play in European competitions when they geographically shouldn’t? Who knows…. All I know is that , just like the Qatar successful bid , world football is in a corrupt mess that is only highlighted by their hypocrisy.
Considering the treatment that other Jews have been subjected to when they dare to criticise Israel, Mr Kaufman’s exposure of the inhuman conditions inflicted on the people of Gaza is brave indeed.
The fairly recent events to try and bomb Syria ended in complete humiliation for both the Americans and the British Governments. Obama was left looking very stupid despite AIPAC pressure on the congress but even more so by US public opinion. For the most part , Hague and his British warmonger friends were unequivocally told by parliament that this attack on another Middle Eastern country was not going to happen. Hague has been extremely quiet since the humiliating Members of Parliament ‘no’ vote.
However it seems that Obama hasn’t given up on his own legacy of being a great war-time leader. The supposed humanitarian relief for Syrian cities is not as it seems and is meant to fail. Obama (through Samantha Power) put the onus on Assad’s government to make sure that it was a success when in actual fact they have very little control over what happens in Homs , for example . These areas are ‘rebel’ controlled, hence the reason why they are blockaded by Assad troops and that the humanitarian crises occurred in the first place. Israel is allowed and even encouraged to use the same tactics on Gaza without condemnation.
It seems the next significant proposal by Obama will be to threaten Assad with reprisals for a relief effort that could never succeed.
I won’t pretend that I know much about the troubles in Ukraine at the moment but what I do know is that the protesters appear to be better equipped than the Ukrainian police. Such organised protests don’t just spring from thin air, they are meticulously planned and executed , usually by some outside influence. Obviously, this isn’t in the same league as what happened in Syria but then again Russia’s response will be different completely if things get out of hand. The Syrian revolution was planned and financed by outside influences , mainly Saudi and Qatar then supported by the US and European governments when they were convinced Assad would fall. He didn’t and they were wrong. I don’t know how much the assistance of Iran , Russia and Hezbollah have contributed to Assad’s survival and in almost any other circumstances I would have probably been glad to see the back of him.
The combined support of Saudi , Qatar, Israel , US , UK , Turkey and France for the Syrian terrorists and a quick read of the Yinon plan convinced me that Syrians were better off with Assad.
