I hope this solution can help others from days of frustration. It affects at least Windows 7 and 8.1. Trying to install updates after a reset or clean install results in a never ending search by the operating system. I’ve left it running 4 nights without success in finding those elusive updates. After following various instructions to the letter and not being successful, I thought about downloading the ‘offline’ updates. As you would guess, it’s for computers without a net connection.
So, I downloaded this:
I then put it on a flash drive and when it was finished receiving the updates, I disabled the wireless, went to the client folder on the flash and selected the correct operating system. I gave the program administration control which allows it to reboot the computer when it needs to. Not all the updates were installed but it’s broken the cycle of ‘searching’.
